As you've probably notice, it's been a long gap between updates.

This is normal for me, I would work on this blog for a bit, abandon it, then come back a couple of years later.

In the nearly 7 years since my last update things have changed quite a bit. A quick overview of those changes.

1. I've changed careers.

  • Q9 Networks was sold to Bell Canada, which became part of their national hosting division. Around 2019, Bell Canada sold their National Hosting Division to Equinix and in Oct 2020, was absorbed fulling in Equinix.
  • I'm no longer with Equinix.  I was with Equinix until approx May of 2022, at which point I left. There's a long story behind it, but needless to say, I wasn't happy there and I wanted out.
  • I'm now with Rogers Communication. I started with Rogers in Oct of 2022 - working as a NOC Specialist in their Data NOC. Lots to learn, lots to do.

2. I went to Japan. In May of 2019, I was in Japan for 5 weeks with my girlfriend Kanae, it was an amazing experience and I loved every second of it. I can only hope in the coming months / years I'm able to go back again, and next time, for several months (minimum 8 weeks).

3. I still have my truck, and it's broken 500,000km - as of last check I was on the cusp of 522,000 km, the hope is by 2030, I'll break a 1,000,000 - or 999,999 km depend on if there's a bug that won't allow the odometer to role over.....it's a GM....so you never know.

4. Lots of changes to my home lab and network in the last 7 years, I'll try to post a few blog postings about those changes, as well as scripts & setups that I have in place. It's been a fun and frustrating journey, when it's your home lab, you have more freedom to setup, configure things, then break it, then fix it, then break it again. Doing so in a production network will get you canned.

If I can think of anything else, I'll be sure to post it.

let's see if I can keep this going.
