One of the perks of my former employers Q9 Networks & Bell National Hosting, was free employee colocation services.

Being able to rack & stack your equipment in a 24/7 climate control & secure facility with unlimited power and bandwidth utilization was fantastic.

I'll be the first to admit, I heavily exploited the service in order run my home network / server labs offsite. I had equipment racked in 2 locations - Q9 Brampton and Q9 Toronto, with VPN tunnels setup between home and to each of the sites. It allowed me to have backups in place offsite, host internet facing services, setup virtualization labs, building out new VMs and again free power & bandwidth.

After joining Equinix, the colocation service for employees was terminated.....they didn't see it as beneficial to their employees.  I would disagree with their assessment......

Anyway, before I was done with Equinix, I wanted to keep colocating my equipment, this is to ensure that I have offsite backups for a worse case scenario, as well as reducing the noise & power draw at home. Running vacuum cleaners 24/7 can be annoying to some, therapeutic for others.

Enter Halton DC, they're a small colocation facility located in Milton, Ontario. They're budget friendly (especially in comparison to just about all other providers), and I've been happy with their services for the last year. In the few instances where I had issues, I was able to email / open a support ticket and get it resolved fairly quickly.
